About

The heavily modeled carving results in a lively interplay of light and shadow on the reddish boxwood. The raw form of the powder bottle can only be guessed at in the tangle of animals. The precious powder bottle was part of a luxurious piece of hunting equipment. This also included magnificent weapons (especially wheel lock rifles), which Johann Michael Maucher decorated with elaborate carvings. At that time Maucher's works were princely art chamber pieces; today they are among the treasures of some collections in Europe and America (Ehmer 1992, cat. C I 38).
