About
The ending of The Last Unicorn conveys a kind of melancholy joy. The relief of having conquered "evil"
is associated with the sadness of not being lovers. The unicorn can free its fellow species, but remains alone due to its (emotional) otherness. The story leaves the visitor without a real happy ending. At the same time, the open narrative structure confronts him with very topical existential questions such as: Is there a happy ending for species threatened with extinction? Can nature still be saved? What world do we want to live in? The two elements, sky and sea, are intertwined via the aqua tone of the chapter design, the physical connection of which manifests itself as a rainbow, which in the works of Olaf Nicolai and Meissen Atelier is taken up.
