About
The outlines of a unicorn figure can still be seen on the heart-shaped shield, in profile with front legs raised and standing on one hind leg. Such coats of arms were attached to the city towers as national emblems. With deep chisel cuts the heraldic animal of Schwäbisch Gmünd was deleted when the city lost its imperial immediacy at the beginning of the 19th century and was added to the Kingdom of Württemberg.
