OPUS AURA | Fabian Freytag

With OPUS AURA, Fabian Freytag presents a site-specific installation developed for the Martina Tauber showroom, in which light objects and paintings engage in a complex dialogue with space, architecture, and perception. Lines and perspectives
are fractured and reassembled – objects, lights, and paintings interact and intertwine through light and color, continuously generating new visual connections.

At the core of this work is the revelation of materiality and artisanal process. The light fixtures were produced in a workshop typically dedicated to the precision of professional kitchen environments – a context that unexpectedly combines
technical rigor with atmospheric presence. Freytag’s series of wooden paintings, in contrast, were ‘drawn’ with a chainsaw – a rough tool used as a sketching instrument – creating relief-like surfaces that gain intensity through their
interaction with light.

While materials are often seen as the sole conveyors of meaning, in Freytag’s work a second layer emerges: light. It shifts mood, establishes tone, and tells a parallel story. To evoke the e ect of the equinox, Freytag worked with paint rollers that were deliberately left unwashed during the process, allowing colors to blend
unpredictably and creating a subtle harmonization across surfaces, resulting in a delicate, floating equilibrium.
The installation consciously departs from the conventions of the White Cube, creating instead an atmosphere that resists explanation – an aura to be felt rather than fully grasped. OPUS AURA explores the fusion of space and scale, rooted in an architectural approach that Freytag consistently disrupts in order to prioritize human experience and accessibility. In this work, scenography and architecture interweave, producing a spatial experience that is at once precise and fleeting.
